Student Academic Integrity Procedure for CASS Staff

The ANU Code of Practice for Student Academic Integrity makes explicit the University’s expectations for academic integrity on the part of students in their academic practice, and staff responsibilities in developing and promoting academic integrity and penalising academic misconduct.

General Overview

  1. Determine if a breach has occurred
  2. Determine if the breach is ‘Poor academic practice’ or ‘Academic misconduct’
    • If the breach constitutes ‘Poor academic practice’, then warn and counsel the student
    • If the breach constitutes ‘Academic misconduct’ then it is handled under the Discipline Rules

Note: the Code requires students to be informed in writing of the progress of their case at specific stages. Student Notification templates are provided below to assist CASS staff.

See the Academic Integrity Procedure Flowchart below for a detailed overview

What do I need to do?

If you suspect that a student has breached the Code

  1. Download and print a blank Academic Integrity Report (see below)

  2. Fill in the coversheet and attach a copy of the assessment item

  3. Follow and complete the Procedure Checklist contained in the Academic Integrity Report.

  4. Ensure that all relevant notifications have been sent to the student

Note: an initial interview with the student is required before a determination is made
