Bachelor of Latin American Studies

As the only Australian undergraduate degree to focus on Latin America, the Bachelor of Latin American Studies draws from the teaching and research excellence of the ANU Australian National Centre for Latin American Studies (ANCLAS) to offer you unique opportunities. You will learn to identify and differentiate the diverse social, political and economic systems that comprise contemporary Latin America. This degree will help you to identify and critique current political debates and understand the international relations and interactions of Latin America with the rest of the world. You will learn about the historical origins of contemporary Latin America; especially the interaction between the indigenous societies of the region and European societies.

You will study the Spanish language in the Latin American context and have the opportunity to travel to Latin America to study for a semester at a partner institution.

Career opportunities

Graduates may find work in policy development, government, private business, tourism, trade, foreign affairs and many other fields.

Further studies

Students can undertake an honours year. There are also many opportunities for postgraduate study including coursework and research.
