A range of endowments have been generously provided for schools within the College of Arts and Social Sciences supporting the provision of prizes, scholarships, research funding, specialised lectures, establishing and maintaining a number of ANU foundations, and providing other assistance for the benefit of students and staff within the college.

The ANU (Canberra) Friends of the Australian Archaeological Institute at Athens

The ANU (Canberra) Friends of the Australian Archaeological Institute at Athens award a scholarship, generally every two years, to an ANU student or other ACT scholar to spend between two and 12 months working on a research project in Greece.

Grahame Johnston Prize for Australian Literature

The Prize is awarded annually to a student enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts who has achieved the best results in that year in Australian Literature in a second or third year unit or in their Honours year.

Iain Wright Prize

This Prize was established in memory of Iain Wright, a former ANU staff member. It is awarded for English to a student enrolled at the College of Arts and Social Sciences.

Kate North Memorial Prize

This Prize was established to remember Kate North who worked for many years as Secretary in Slavonic Languages at ANU. The annual Prize is awarded to an outstanding student in the study of Russian or French literature.

Rachel Dorph Memorial Prize

This Prize was established through a trust from the late William Paul Frederick Dorph. It is awarded each year to the student who in that year submits the best essay on a topic prescribed as part of the requirements of an A-level English unit.

Reginald de Bray Prize for Linguistics

The Reginald de Bray Prize is awarded each year to an undergraduate student who achieves the best result in the Linguistics Honours.

William K Fullagar Prize for Classics

This prize is awarded each year to a student who in that year was enrolled in a program leading to the award of a degree of Bachelor with Honours and who has achieved the highest mark in the Honours year in any of the Classics field.

Leslie Holdsworth Allen Memorial Endowment

This prize was establihed to award a student who is enrolled in a program leading to the award of a degree of Bachelor with English IV Honours, having the highest mark.

Baudin French Scholarship

The Baudin Scholarship was established by the French Government in 1999 and was named after the famous French navigator who explored Australian waters. The Scholarship supports Honours level students who travel to France for study.

The purpose of this Endowment is to provide support for students who are studying Biological Anthropology, focusing on primatology.

The ANIP endowment provides scholarships to students undertaking internships away from their normal place of residence. It provides support in regard to travel, visa and accommodation costs in order to reduce the overall cost to the student.

H C Coombs Creative Arts Fellowship Endowment

The H C Coombs Creative Arts Fellowship was established in 1964 at the instigation of Dr H C Coombs, ANU Pro-Chancellor at the time, to encourage creative work in the arts in Australia. The first of its kind in Australia, it was hoped other Australian Universities would follow the ANU example and establish similar schemes for the encouragement of creative artists. The fellowship has supported prominent Australian artists such as Judith Wright, John Perceval, Arthur Boyd, Fiona Hall and Robyn Davidson.

Thinking Trust Endowment

This Endowment supports a biennial public lecture known as the “Kenneth Meredith Garven Lecture”. Held every two years to explicate and expand the case for and against the theory of Determinism and/or identify and analyse the philosophical, sociological, psychological and religious corollaries and implications of Determinism.
