Sociology Planning Forum

The purpose of the Sociology Planning Forum will be to:

  • Set the priorities for development of the discipline in the next three to five year period, and in particular identify those areas on which the discipline should focus to ensure its continuing research excellence and leadership, nationally and internationally;
  • Consider the areas of current and potential excellence in the teaching, higher degree research supervision and research of the discipline;
  • to determine how to position the discipline to be distinctive nationally;
  • recommend ways by which our education programs can be further developed within the discipline, including by collaborative teaching across the College, to take advantage of our research expertise;
  • Develop proposals for postgraduate course work programs that will position the College as a leader in postgraduate education nationally;
  • Recommend strategies for further enhancing research collaboration;
  • Identify the staffing and other resources needed to achieve these goals.

Recommendations that emerge from the forums will be considered by the College Executive, with the College Dean responsible for their incorporation into our Strategic Plan.

Written submissions should be received no later than FRIDAY, 11 JULY. The submissions should be no more than 2 pages and focus on the following matters relative to the context outlined above:

  • Research excellence and critical mass
  • College collaborations
  • Planning for growth

The Sociology Planning Forum will commence with an open discussion on Friday, July 18. Staff are welcome to take the opportunity to put their views to the CASS Forum and external advisor either in writing or on the day of the open discussion. The venue for the event will be the Hedley Bull Centre, Bldg 130, cnr Liversidge St and Garran Rd.
